EYE MOVEMENT DESENTIZATION REPROCESSING (EMDR)
EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation, stimuli (visual, auditory or tactile) which occur in a rhythmic left-right pattern, to reprocess the emotions, thoughts or behaviors that result from a distressing experience (trauma). This allows your brain to resume a natural healing process. In an EMDR session, you are gently guided through exercises that build internal and external resources that will prepare you for EMDR trauma processing. Your EMDR therapist will then take you through a series of steps that will help you to adaptively process the disturbing memory so that the distress is reduced and the brain and body recognize that the event is over and in the past.
